Really?

My mind is boggled everytime a story comes out about politicians sexting, cheating, answering ads or posting pictures of themselves.  I mean  . . . really?? They never thought they would get caught?  Sometimes I think they seem to think their supporters and the general public are just plain stupid.

The most recent stories are those of GOP Rep. Chris Lee and Congressman Anthony Weiner.  Though really with the last name Weiner you had to know eventually there would be a scandal.  It's the perfect name for the media blitz that followed.

Rep Chris Lee decided to pretend to be a divorced congressman and send someone a picture of himself shirtless.  The best part of course instead of just sending a picture of his body, you could see his face.  How funny is it that he did the pic in a mirror and you can see his cell phone even.  Did he think no one would recognize him?  Did he want to get caught?  This scandal did eventually cause him to resign.

Next we have Mr. Weiner, oh the jokes that can be told.  Really you thought you could text some ladies and no one would find out?  Inappropriate online relations with 6 women and then oops that picture was sent to my Twitter account??  Ummmmm, no I was hacked  . ..  for real?  Does he not know that things like that can be traced?  After saying again and again he would not resign . . . he resigned.  Of course now if he wants he can accept a job offer from Larry Flynt, the publisher of Hustler magazine.  I think the best part was the fact that Bill Clinton (who had his own lil scandal) was the officiant at his wedding.  Weiner didn't stand a chance.

Well I guess what these scandals show is both parties aren't perfect.  Luckily North Dakota has far remained scandal free.  They do have a few things to learn from some of these scandals.  Josh Boschee from the High Plains Reader had a few rules for our North Dakota politicians.

  • When sneaking away to lock lips with your mustached beau, whom you are not married to, I would advise that you do so in a building that your co-workers aren’t also hanging out in. You never know when someone may catch a good shot on their camera and accidentally post to Twitter or Facebook.
  • When hooking up through Craigslist, don’t provide your personal phone number that is listed on your official web page for the general public to contact you at. It’s nice that you want to be accessible to your constituents, but it only takes a quick search on said phone number to discover that you are a part of the majority party in this state.
  • When e-mailing from your official e-mail address, don’t include entire messages that elude to the fact that you may have experience compensating people for their naked time with you. Although you won’t have to pay taxes on them due to their independent contractor status, I don’t think most North Dakotans are ready to learn what actually happens on official state business trips.
These stories lead me to wonder, what other politicians think they can keep personal relations with people outside their marriage a secret?

View of North Dakota

It's always nice when North Dakota makes the national news, it would be even better if it wasn't because we are suffering from a natural disaster or just to prove how awesome our winters are and deter people from wanting to come to our state.

The New York Times did a story on Langdon, ND, with the title of North Dakotans Offer 2 Winter Musts: Kitty Litter and Schnapps.  It's a great article about how our winters are horrible and people stock up on kitty litter to use for when they get stuck.  The article also points out that our population pales in comparison of New York City.  Think their population is actually more than our entire state.  North Dakota has a population of 675,905 while just New York City has 8,391,881.

They make us sound like a hearty crew becaue when  New York City is hitting 13 degrees below we laugh and say "that's not that cold".  Of course at that time we are probably suffering from 30 below or even lower.  Of course one of the ways we deal with the cold is just to add a little Hot Damn to our hot apple cider.

At least it does seem to keep more of the riffraff out when you look at our crime statistics and how we are known for our work ethic and our friendliness.  New York City may be known for culture but their crime rates are higher and their people of a reputation for their rudeness.

Really I'd love to visit the Big Apple sometime I would never want to live there . . . North Dakota is a great place to raise a family and a great place to visit certain times of the year.  Just hope sometime we make the news more for something good and they don't choose to interview one of the few people that have a think "Fargo movie" accent . . . we all don't talk like that dontcha know, uffda.
