View of North Dakota

It's always nice when North Dakota makes the national news, it would be even better if it wasn't because we are suffering from a natural disaster or just to prove how awesome our winters are and deter people from wanting to come to our state.

The New York Times did a story on Langdon, ND, with the title of North Dakotans Offer 2 Winter Musts: Kitty Litter and Schnapps.  It's a great article about how our winters are horrible and people stock up on kitty litter to use for when they get stuck.  The article also points out that our population pales in comparison of New York City.  Think their population is actually more than our entire state.  North Dakota has a population of 675,905 while just New York City has 8,391,881.

They make us sound like a hearty crew becaue when  New York City is hitting 13 degrees below we laugh and say "that's not that cold".  Of course at that time we are probably suffering from 30 below or even lower.  Of course one of the ways we deal with the cold is just to add a little Hot Damn to our hot apple cider.

At least it does seem to keep more of the riffraff out when you look at our crime statistics and how we are known for our work ethic and our friendliness.  New York City may be known for culture but their crime rates are higher and their people of a reputation for their rudeness.

Really I'd love to visit the Big Apple sometime I would never want to live there . . . North Dakota is a great place to raise a family and a great place to visit certain times of the year.  Just hope sometime we make the news more for something good and they don't choose to interview one of the few people that have a think "Fargo movie" accent . . . we all don't talk like that dontcha know, uffda.
